The Attorney General's Office of Oaxaca (FGEO) has detained seven municipal police officers from San Miguel Panixtlahuaca. They are accused of the qualified homicide of a 10-year-old boy as a result of an attack with firearm shots. In a press release, the Prosecutor's Office reported that a multidisciplinary team, coordinated by the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Coast, is investigating the events that occurred on January 18, 2026. On that day, the boy was in the vicinity of the soccer field in the Guadalupe neighborhood of San Miguel Panixtlahuaca. Witnesses stated that municipal police officers arrived at the scene, and upon their presence, the victim and the people accompanying him tried to flee, but were pursued, and minutes later, firearm shots were heard. The following morning, the boy's lifeless body was located; his body was found on the banks of the river in the population, at the height of the Cristo Rey colony. Based on these events, municipal authorities reported to the Oaxaca Prosecutor's Office, which opened an investigation file for the crime of Qualified Homicide and carried out the corresponding ministerial and expert work. Subsequently, it detained the seven municipal police officers allegedly involved, while investigations are ongoing. Likewise, the Human Rights Defense of the People of Oaxaca (DDHPO) informed that the Puerto Escondido Regional Office initiated the DDHPO/CA/001/RC/(11)/OAX/2026 Precedents Notebook. The entity expressed its concern about the context of violence in which the locality finds itself, as the superior interest of girls, boys, and adolescents is being violated, which must be a priority for the State, both in guaranteeing the full exercise of their rights and in their protection, since this event could leave this sector in a vulnerable situation. The Human Rights Defense of the People of Oaxaca called on the Municipal President of San Miguel Panixtlahuaca to cooperate with the Attorney General's Office of Oaxaca (FGEO) in order to carry out the necessary procedures for the proper clarification of the facts with a human rights and childhood perspective. Meanwhile, the boy's family demanded justice and severe punishment for the police who took his life.
